Overview
The Authority is a young but rapidly expanding human regime, founded only a few centuries ago. They rose to power after the peaceful Pre-Authority Era, a time of open exploration and mutual cooperation among humanity’s scattered worlds.
The Authority claims to protect civilization from future collapse, but their doctrine twists preservation into control.
Their power is built upon:
- Superior technology — including starships, neural interfaces, genetic science, and time travel via Beta-Class Time Ships
- Strict hierarchy and surveillance — enforced by agents like Thalos
- A doctrine of protective intervention — masking exploitation and control
Doctrine and Methods
- Cultures are judged by their usefulness, not their right to exist.
- “Protection” is enforced through surveillance, obedience, and forced assimilation.
- Their interventions are justified by predictions of disasters they insist will happen.
They see themselves as the pinnacle of human evolution, mandated to guide—or dominate—every species they encounter. Any world they label “primitive” is subject to occupation under the guise of rescue.
Kor’s Perspective
When the Authority descend upon Kor’s world, his people see gods. Kor sees invaders.
To Kor’s people, the Authority are distant saviors promising rescue from a catastrophe the future has already foreseen. To Kor, they are occupiers, rewriting freedom itself as a threat.
Glossary Entry (Short Form)
Authority: A relatively young human regime, a few centuries old, that rose after a long, peaceful Pre-Authority Era. They justify conquest as “protection” from predicted catastrophes, enforcing control through surveillance, assimilation, and occupation of any culture they deem “primitive.”
